Not Just Another Atlanta Braves Fan

Being an Atlanta Braves fan is a great privilege. Although, I do not consider myself to be, simply, a fan. I call myself an "Atlanta Braves Connoisseur." A connoisseur is defined as "a person with expert understanding of artistic and similar subjects." When "my boys" are playing, it is art to me. Art that takes my breath away...To read more, visit http://www.helium.com/items/950316-mlb-what-its-like-to-be-a-atlanta-braves-fan

Reasons To Home School

The decision to home school our daughter was made long before she was born. We decided to home school her because we love her and want the best for her. When searching for the best possible education, there is no place like our home. Public school is no place for children and many private schools in our area have turned into reform schools. We wanted more control over what she was taught and the pace in which it was taught. We wanted to be able to instill our values and convictions in her before society tried to indoctrinate her into an apathetic crowd follower. ..To read more, visit http://www.helium.com/items/1043378-good-reasons-for-homeschooling-your-children

The Jungle

Our living room transforms
no longer the same. Couch is an
elephant draperies become
some vines. Pretend
game with little
girl and her Momma
overtakes the happy home. The dog is the
giraffe and the cat now a tiger. We
play for hours not
stopping to check our
clock. Lamps are trees
looming overhead
our chairs are now zebras monkeys and
hippos. Laughter rings
all around as we
are stalked by wild hunters
on four legs. Sheets
from the bed our
tent as hide from all
the wildlife. Daddy
comes home much surprised
we call out to him
"Welcome to the jungle."

Remembering My Grandparents

As a college student, it seemed I had a lot of car problems. I was constantly searching the want ads for another car and towing my old one to the salvage yard. My grandparents, especially my grandfather, loved it when I would get a new car. Well, any car that was new to me. I would always drive to their home and show it off to them. My grandmother look at the paint job and the interior, making sure it was clean. She always had a little comment to make, usually something to the effect of "keep the floorboards clean so the carpet won't wear out." I grandfather would conduct a thorough inspection and then say, "Let's see how it'll sound..." To read more, visit http://www.helium.com/items/949326-memoirs-grandparents

Most Embarrassing Moments With Pets

They weren't lady-like tooties. They were almost as loud as the thunder that shook the mini-van. The smell. Oh, my goodness the smell. Five people, two cats and three dogs, one of which had an extreme case of what I call "scaredy tooties" were all trapped in this small van with a smell horrible that was indescribable...To read more, visit http://hubpages.com/hub/EmmaRileySutton_MostEmbarrassingMomentWithYourPet

Advice For College Graduates

My grandmother taught me how to drive. My father was too much of a bully to do it. My mother was too nervous and I didn't trust her driving. My grandfather had taught me just about everything else. So, my grandmother was given the honor of teaching me how to drive. She was funny and supportive. No matter what kind of mistakes I made, she had a way to gently correct me...To read more, visit http://www.helium.com/items/989790-best-advice-for-the-college-graduate

Are Rape Surviors Responsible for the Attack?

As someone who volunteers at sexual assault centers and safe houses, I have many years experience dealing with rape survivors. Unfortunately, I have learned that some survivors behave irresponsibly. Despite their behavior, no still means no and they are not responsible for the actions of their attacker. They are, however, responsible for their own actions...To read more, visit http://www.helium.com/items/1065042-are-some-victims-of-rape-irresponsible

Giving Birth Was Fun!

Everyday Heroes

Heroes are those nameless, faceless people who go unnoticed and unrewarded. They don't always change the world or cure a disease. Garage Sale Stripper

No one goes to garage sales like my mother. She is the perfect little boy scout - always prepared. Always prepared for anything. She wears her comfy shoes and brings an extra pair in case of muddy yards. She brings her maps, snacks, money, even items to trade or barter with. She has detailed notes she makes from the ads in the newspapers. She has her sunblock, sunglasses, and umbrella. If she thinks it might be useful, she brings it. She loads up the car and off she goes. As well prepared as she thinks she is, one particular Saturday of garage saling left her scarred for life. She now adds one additional it to her endless supplies...To read more, go to http://www.helium.com/items/946127-humor-garage-sales

Keeping Up With Your House-Cleaning Check-List

Without my house-cleaning check-list, I am afraid nothing would get done. I would be overwhelmed on a daily basis by all the little things that had to be done to keep our home clean and tidy. After several attempts to keep up with the household cleaning chores, I finally found a check-list that works for my family. We are all thankful we now have a method that works for us. We now use several check-lists - a weekly check-list for the entire house and check-lists for each of the rooms of our home that list daily cleaning chores. We do not have a monthly check-list...To read more, go to http://www.helium.com/items/1038600-tips-for-keeping-a-house-cleaning-check-list

An Unusual Story about Slavery

Most of us have read the history books and have a general understand of slavery in America. Rather than quote or regurgitate what can be read in those books, I will tell the story of a woman who live in South Carolina during the time of slavery. I doubt anyone outside of my family has ever heard of her until now. Her story can only be retold by those who have read her diaries. I inherited those diaries from my grandfather. She was our aunt, too many great-greats to count back. They have been passed down in our family for years. Are Wedding Planners Necessary?

Take it from a professional wedding coordinator, me, you need a wedding planner. Do you need to pay a professional wedding planner? Absolutely not. At the height of my career, I was doing anywhere from six to ten weddings per month. I worked with a staff of three - me, myself and I - and that was a lot of work. Crazy thing about that, two thirds of the couples who paid for my services, did not need me. Why didn't they need me? I only work part-time now, about twelve to thirty weddings per year, so I've got the time to explain... To read more, please go to http://www.helium.com/items/997582-do-you-need-a-wedding-planner

My Odd Job In College

Odd jobs in college? I was a hooker when I was a student in college. At first, I was doing it for free, but I needed the money and this odd job was easy. I made money hand over fist for just a few minutes work. I wasn't a "traditional hooker" when I was a college student, though. That is the odd part. I wrote "hooks" for other college students who were having trouble writing essays for their classes. What is a "hook" and how was that an odd job for me to have as a college student? How did I make money with that odd job? Let me explain...
